Meet the Artist: Angie Daly

I am Angie Daly, a calligrapher and painter living in Florence, Arizona with my husband and three little girls. I started calligraphy back in 2017 in an effort to start a new hobby. I had no idea it would turn into not just a hobby, but a love and even a small business.

My main skill set is in calligraphy and brush lettering, but I also love to paint using all types of media including watercolor, acrylic, and oils. I truly believe art is for everyone, no matter your skill level! It's such a great way to relax the mind and alleviate stress.

What started your interest in lettering and calligraphy? Had you painted or done other arts or crafts prior?

After I gave birth to my first daughter, I felt like I needed to do something else so I decided to do some crafts like cross stitching but that didn't go well until I got my hands into Calligraphy and Lettering. And I fell in love with it, I have practiced everyday since then non stop until now.

For those who do not have a lot of experience with lettering but may want to add words to other projects they are making can you share some pointers in terms of supplies and techniques to help them make their lettering look more professional and polished?

If you don't have any experience at all with lettering and calligraphy, do not be afraid to start doing it. Even a simple hand writing on projects you're working on will make it look good as long as you put your heart and effort into it. If you're thinking of learning this kind of skill, do not be afraid to start. There are so many ways and materials to make your lettering look good and more polished. And of course, PRACTICE and PATIENCE!
